Khartoum court sentences student to 5 years in jail

A Khartoum criminal court has sentenced a university student to five years imprisonment and a fine of 40,000 SDG for killing a student affiliated to the ruling party.

Mohamed Baggari who was studying at East Nile University College faced charges under article 131 of the Sudanese criminal code.

Adam Abakar, the defense lawyer, told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the court sentenced Mohammed Baggari to five years in prison, besides the payment of 40,000 SDG as blood money.

The lawyer pointed out that his client was charged under article 131 instead of article 130, saying Baggari used his legitimate rights to self-defense.

Abakar hinted that they intend to appeal, adding that his client could be acquitted by the court after appeal.
