A Sudanese juvenile court has issued a death sentence against a man found guilty of sexually abusing a three-year-old child in an area south of Khartoum.

The abuser was reportedly a neighbor to the child’s family and the incident took place when there was nobody else available to watch the child.

Health authorities confirmed that the child was sexually abused after its family opened the case with police.

Osman Al Agib, the chairman of the Child Protection Society, told Akhir-Lahza newspaper that his organization had requested that all sexual abusers be executed in public.

A report from Sudan’s National Council for Child Welfare found that 12,300 cases of sexual assault against children took place in 2014.
