A Sudanese court on Sunday released 24 women who were arrested by the Sudanese Public Order Police on Thursday accusing them of indecent dressing at a women’s party in Khartoum.

Relatives of those arrested told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the police charged the women under article 152 of the Sudanese Criminal Code concerning wearing obscene clothing.

The police said the women were dressed in short skirts and tight trousers, which is contravening the Public Order Act.

Despite the release of the women, the court found the party organiser who hails from South Sudan Helene Gabriel guilty, fining her 10,000 SSP or risk a month in prison for Filing to pay the fine.
