Sudan’s Minister for Foreign Trade Osman Omer Al Sharif announced that his ministry intends to authorized massive exports of sorghum to South Sudan after receiving a delegation from South Sudan’s ministry of commerce.
The minister said that the South Sudanese technical delegation will conduct talks with his ministry regarding the arrangements for opening the border trade between the two countries. The technical committee is expected to meet Wednesday to Friday.
Al Sharif added that his ministry is processing about 4 million sacks of sorghum in preparation for exporting them as the first batch of export items to be exported to South Sudan from Sudan.
He noted also in a press statement at the premises of the ministry yesterday in Khartoum that a trade facilitation conference will start today in Friendship Hall.
“The ministry has prepared a list of about 172 commodities to be exchange later between the two countries and expects that the revenues which will be gained in the process will exceed billions which will be channelled to the state treasury,” read the statement.
The minister expected the opening of ten corridors between the two countries in addition to a number of customs and police points to regulate cross-border trade besides the opening of river ports between Juba and Khartoum.
