Khartoum and Juba to establish ‘joint bank’

The business communities in Sudan and South Sudan held a meeting in Khartoum on Tuesday to discuss trade and economic integration between the two countries.

The chairperson of Sudanese Business People Union, Soud Al Birer confirmed that they have signed an agreement with South Sudan’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture delegation which accompanied the visiting South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir to Khartoum.

The Sudanese businessman explained that the deal provides for the establishment of a joint bank to facilitate, encourage exchange of trade between the two Sudans.

“Our meetings with South Sudan’s chamber of commerce showed good news and positive signs of improvement of economic cooperation between Sudan and South Sudan” Al Birer said.

He also revealed that in September there will be joint talks between the two businesses communities in Juba to activate the business agreement signed on Tuesday.

Al Birer explained that the cooperation between the two business institutions will be in full coordination with authorities concerned in the two countries’ Ministries of Commerce and Customs Services as well as the private sector.
