Khartoum accuses South Sudan of backing rebels

Sudan’s Second Vice-President, Hassabo Mohamed Abdel Rahman, has accused South Sudan of still supporting armed movements in Darfur and the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan regions.

Abdel Rahman said that Juba is still providing a base from which "hostile acts” are carried out against Sudan.

The Sudanese official claimed that Khartoum is “committed to stop any hostile activities” against South Sudan, but Juba has not yet shown similar commitment, Germany News Agency report.

Khartoum is committed to push for international efforts to resolve the crisis in South Sudan through the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), according to the Sudanese Vice-President.

The Sudanese government has been fighting against insurgents in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan states. It has repeatedly accused South Sudan of supporting the rebels, while Juba has been accusing the Sudanese government of backing South Sudanese rebels that fight President Kiir’s forces.

Last month, Sudan’s Foreign Ministry summoned the South Sudan Ambassador in Khartoum to protest against “the support provided by his country to the rebels and the hostile media campaign led by the Juba government against Khartoum”.
