The community of Ketire Payam in Geria County in South Sudan’s Imotong State has threatened to expel a teak logging company Teckna South Sudan Limited, accusing the company of felling the trees without rendering services in the area, Radio Emmanuel reports.
Loboi Abraham, Ketire Chief, said the community is unhappy because the company did not meet their priorities in return of the forest.
Laudina Keji, Chairlady of Ketire Women Association, said the community agreed to expel the Teckna Company because it has failed to fulfil their demands.
Ketire Youth Representative, Sebit Lokang, said any company that will come to cut the forest must plant replacements.
John Karvello, Teckna Limited Director said there were logistical delays, while appealing to the community to be patient as the process to build the health center is underway as the first priority.
Geria County Commissioner, Dominic Onyu, said the government will still look at the community concerns before taking any decision against the company.
Ketire Forest is located some 50 kilometres South of Torit, the area has about 100 hectors of both natural and plantation forest.
