A Kenyan lady shot by a South Sudanese soldier at the Ashua area along the Juba-Nimule road, has been flown to the Nairobi for treatment.

Jamila Kifufa, 38, who was shot in the neck by an SPLA soldier on March 24 as she was driving a truck, was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital for treatment.

Riaw Gatlier Gai, South Sudan’s deputy minister of interior, told Radio Tamazuj today that the Kenyan lady was shot accidentally after drivers were stopped by soldiers for verification and checking at the area of Ashua.

“It was an isolated incident. The soldier called Akol James has been arrested pending investigations,” Gatlier said.

He pointed out that the government will contact the family of the wounded women to discuss matters to do with medical expenses. “Hopefully after Easter holiday we will talk to the family,” Gatlier said.

The government official revealed that the wounded Kenyan woman is in intensive care in Nairobi after being shot in the neck by the soldier in South Sudan.

The deputy minister expressed his regret for the incident that resulted in the wounding of the Kenyan lady, saying the government of South Sudan is providing protection to all people including foreigners.

“The peoples of Kenya and South Sudan are one. We have a shared history,” Gatlier said.

For her part, Stella, who is taking care of Jamila in Nairobi, said Jamila never spoke to people after the surgery at the Nairobi Hospital, pointing out that the lady was in critical condition.

“Jamila’s colleagues said she was shot by a South Sudanese soldier when she was trying to look for a place where to park her vehicle after she was stopped,” Stella.
