Kenyan high court stops deportation of two SPLM-IO officials to Juba

A High Court in Kenya has issued an order directing immigration authorities to stop any process for deportation of the two South Sudanese opposition officials who have been missing in Nairobi since Monday.

Dong Samuel Luak is a prominent lawyer and opposition figure who has spoken out against human rights abuses in South Sudan. Aggrey Idri Izbon is a chairman of the SPLM-IO committee for humanitarian affairs under rebel leader Riek Machar.

Justice Luka Kimaru has directed County Criminal Investigations Officer Nicholas Kamwende to take over the case and investigate the disappearance and then present a report to the high court next Tuesday.

The judge also directed the Director of Immigration to assist the police with whatever information that they will seek in respect of the alleged disappearance of the two men.

The judge has also directed all mobile phone service providers to provide data on the missing people's communications.

For his part, Pouk Both Baluang, spokesman of the SPLM-IO in Nairobi, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj this afternoon that the Kenyan high court had issued an order halting the deportation of the two SPLM-IO officials to Juba without a decision from the court.

According to the rebel official, the judge also directed the police to look for the two men who disappeared in mysterious circumstances in Nairobi recently.
