Kenya will support the next phase of the South Sudanese peace talks in Khartoum by deploying a team of experts to support the finalization of the process, according to IGAD.

According to a press release by the IGAD, regional leaders resolved that after the signing of the agreement on governance and security in Khartoum, President Omar Hassan Al Bashir will continue facilitating the talks with the same spirit of inclusivity and commendable vigor until the revitalized deal is finally signed.

“In this regard, it was agreed that H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta supports the next phase by deploying a team of experts to support the finalization of the process,” partly reads the IGAD press release.

The IGAD leaders, according the press release, hailed the progress achieved by President Bashir on the issues referred to him by the IGAD Summit of the 32nd Extra-Ordinary Assembly of IGAD Heads of State and Government held on 21 June 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia that requested President Bashir to facilitate a second round of face-to-face talks between the South Sudan warring parties.

The IGAD leaders had agreed to hold more sessions to sketch out details and timetables for implementation of the signed peace deal in the Sudanese capital. The schedule had earlier stated that the talks would move to Nairobi, Kenya after Khartoum.
