Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga on Friday met South with South Sudan’s opposition leader Riek Machar in South Africa in a new effort to reconcile South Sudanese leaders and end years of devastating civil strife.
He recently visited the capital Juba to meet with President Kiir after the warring parties reached a deadlock at the peace talks in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
A source to Radio Tamazuj that the meeting between Kenya’s opposition chief Raila Odinga and South Sudan’s opposition leader Riek Machar focused on how the conflict in South Sudan should be ended so refugees and displaced people could return back home.
Riek Machar, who has been under house arrest in South Africa since 2016, is expected to be released soon to hold face-to-face talks with President Salva Kiir.
