Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has flied to South Africa this morning in a new effort to reconcile South Sudanese leaders and end years of devastating civil strife.
Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga is scheduled to meet exiled rebel leader and former South Sudan vice president Riek Machar over the ongoing civil war.
He recently visited the capital Juba to meet with President Kiir after the warring parties reached a deadlock at the peace talks in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
His aide confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that Kenya’s opposition chief Raila Odinga travelled to South Africa this morning to meet South Sudan’s opposition leader Riek Machar.
Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, deputy head of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) committee for information said earlier that they were happy with Mr Oding’s meeting with their boss in South Africa.
Riek Machar has been under house arrest in South Africa since 2016.
