The strike at Kenya Commercial Bank’s branches in South Sudan has extended to the town of Aweil as some media report that the strike is nationwide.

A client of the bank in Aweil, Deng Anei, said they were surprised this morning to find the bank’s doors were locked. He called for the government to intervene to rescue the situation.

Deng, a representative of NGOs in Aweil said, this had prevented workers from withdrawing their salaries from the bank.

“We were surprised that the KCB bank was closed. Yet we did not get any access to information what happened within the KCB but maybe we are waiting to know from the KCB in charge what happened… we think that maybe something happened within the KCB,” he said.

A crowd of clients were seen waiting at Aweil KCB main gate this morning Radio Tamzuj tried to contact KCB in Aweil for comment but could not locate anybody to comment on the matter.

Separately, Miraya FM reported that the staff strike has “paralyzed work at KCB branches countrywide.”
