Katella citizens concerned over plan to reduce South Darfur localities

Citizens in Katella locality in Sudan’s South Darfur State expressed discontent over reports that the state government intends to reduce the number of localities from 21 to 9.

The locals said they are unhappy about rumours that Katella locality is likely to be annexed to Id Al Fursan area, which is the stronghold of Beni Halba tribe.

Previously, dozens of people were reported killed in fighting between the Beni Halba and Gamar tribes in the area.

A leading figure from Katella who preferred anonymity told Radio Tamazuj that they are worried about rumours being circulated on the matter these days.

He warned that the move could cause renewed violence between the Beni Halba and Gamar.
