The education ministry in Kapoeta state has decided to end lower salaries for teachers saying the state government could triple the monthly pay once the next budget is approved.

The education ministry in Kapoeta state has decided to end lower salaries for teachers saying the state government could triple the monthly pay once the next budget is approved.

The move was one of the resolutions adopted during a conference between the state ministry of education and community representatives on July 26.

Kapoeta’s Minister of Agriculture Cypriano Peter confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the conference resolved to improve the education sector.

“We have agreed to increase the salaries of teachers. The salary of each staff will be tripled for example if a teacher is getting 400 SSP per month, that salary will be multiplied by three, so he will receive 1,200 SSP monthly, and that must be applied to different grades,” he said.

He pointed out that all parents had accepted to contribute food for their children, beside the donation by the World Food Program (WFP).

Separately, the minister said the incentive of $40 from the European Union (EU) to primary school teachers will be also paid for a period of 18 months.

However, he said the incentive has not yet arrived in the state. The donation is expected to start by September, according to the state official.
