Kala-azar cases have registered a significant drop in Ulang County within the rebel-controlled ‘Sobat State’, located in what is otherwise known as Latjor State this month.

In October, over 100 cases of the disease were recorded in Ulang County.

Kech Ngouth Tiem, the SPLM-IO appointed commissioner of Ulang County, told Radio Tamazuj today that the number of kala-azar cases dropped sharply this month compared to previous months.

“Now the disease has reduced to 10 cases within Ulang town because it now a dry season, but the disease is still higher at Yieng area and other areas outside the town where the level of water remains higher,” said Tiem.

The senior rebel official complained about poor primary healthcare services provided by the international aid organization GOAL. “Yes, there is GOAL organization, it is responsible for healthcare, but it doesn’t have enough capacity to render services to the people in Ulang County,”he said.

The commissioner accused government soldiers of restricting movements of civilians within the government-controlled area.
