Thousands of returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Kajo-Keji County of Central Equatoria State have decried the poor telecommunications network in the area.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, several local residents demanded competent authorities to intervene and solve the issue of poor telecommunications network in the area.

They said the issue of poor telecommunications network has hampered their ability to access information and messages on the spread of the novel coronavirus in the area.

Joan Grace, a resident, said women find it hard to communicate since they cannot climb on top of mountains to access mobile network.

She said lack of mobile network leaves the community with no access to information on preventive measures against COVID-19.

Anyik Chaplain, another resident, said: “The people in Kajo-Keji are missing a lot of information and lack of telecommunications network has created a lot of misinformation on the realities in Kajo-Keji.”

He added, “If the MTN network was installed here, people would have enough information circulating.”

Adigo Manson, another resident, urged the government and the management of MTN to extend mobile services to the population.
