Council members in Central Equatoria’s Kajo Keji County have declared that disco halls can only operate on Saturdays for a limited amount of time.
Under the new bylaw issued Thursday, disco halls must be closed on other nights, with offenders subject to fines of two thousand South Sudanese Pounds.
County commissioner Henry Kala Sabuni said the law is in response to poor performance in schools, which he claims is due to disco parties.
“Earlier on, discos were staged three times a week – Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. This is destructive to the education functioning of the country where you find all the age even below 18 find themselves in these discos,” Sabuni told Radio Miraya. “This was destructive and performance was not good.”
