Kadugli exposed to second attack

Mortar shells landed today in Kadugli town, the capital of South Kordofan state, for the second time this week. The attacks originate in rebel-held territory in highlands around the town. Fears have spread that conflict could move into Kadugli amid government aircraft flights over the town.

Eyewitnesses told Radio Tamazuj that the mortar shelling today coincided with the closure day of the Kadugli Consultative Peace Forum, adding that four mortar rounds fell inside Talu High School and others in Al Masanie neighborhood. There were no reported injuries at that moment.

One source who preferred to remain anonymous pointed also to the presence of artillery inside the Kadugli on the east side of the town. She made ​​clear that the sky of Kadugli has seen excessive aircraft activity, amid fears among the citizens that conflict could move into the town.

The authorities are sending signals to the citizens that the situation is under control.

Kadugli witnessed over the last three days the Kadugli Consultative Peace Forum. At the launch of the event the town came under attack by SPLA-N, leaving a number dead and wounded. Radio Tamazuj could confirm only one casualty but state news media cited five deaths. Witnesses today did not confirm whether there were injuries.
