The Kachipo tribe in Boma state, one of South Sudan’s newly created states, has demanded the split of Jebel Boma area into two separate counties, a state legislator said.
The Kachipo are a medium sized tribal group in south-eastern South Sudan, living on the plateau east of Boma, towards the Ethiopian border.
John Doni, an MP representing Jebel Boma in the state assembly, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the Kachipo tribe demanded its own county separate from the Murle tribe.
He pointed out that the demand for a separate county surfaced because the Kachipo is the most underrepresented in the state. Doni claimed that the Kachipo ethnic group is being marginalized in Boma state.
Boma state is one of the states which came into existence after President Salva Kiir issued a controversial 'Establishment Order' in October 2015.
