A campaign has been launched in Northern Bahr el-Ghazal to create transitional justice awareness.
The drive organized by the state Legal Administration together with the South Sudan Law Society (SSLS), aims at enhancing the awareness on transitional justice mechanisms in line with the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
According to the peace agreement among the warring parties, the formation of the Commission for Truth, Healing and Reconciliation (CTHR), the establishment of Hybrid Court of South Sudan (HCSS) and the Compensation and Repatriation Authority (CRA) mechanisms, have to be followed to ensure that the affected South Sudanese are compensated and supported.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the Public Prosecutor in Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State, Deng Majak Deng, said activities would be carried out across the state to sensitize people on the laws.
“All these activities will be carried out in five counties plus two municipalities. The topics include the South Sudan Constitution, how people must appreciate themselves and the Revitalized Peace Agreement,” said Majak.
A participant, Achol Santo Tong, stated that she was delighted to be part of the engagement.
“I am glad to attend today’s training concerning peacebuilding, the promotion of law and order; so it is really a great day,” she said.
Dominic Deng said the key takeaways from the presentations were the roles and mandates of the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS), the National Security (NS) and South Sudan People’s Defense Forces in maintaining security.
The event was featuring participants from different backgrounds and is funded by UNDP and implemented by SSLS and others organizations.
