The Political Advisor for Jubek State Peter Phanuel Yata has urged organized forces who are deployed around Jubek State to protect civilians especially those in the internally displaced persons’ camps, saying these populations are vulnerable and need protection and food.

“I also want to appeal to our security forces especially those in the field to help our people and to be very friendly to help them so that they know that they are under protection,” Peter told journalists yesterday after a meeting at Jubek State headquarters in Juba.

Jubek State is one of three successor governments to Central Equatoria State, which Salva Kiir declared defunct last year in his controversial Establishment Order.

“Our government is really concerned on the security and peace for our people wherever they are,” he added.

He stressed that the Jubek Crisis Management Committee has been formed to make assessment on the neesd of displaced people who left their homes as a result of the heavy fighting between the SPLA and SPLA-IO last week.

People are seeking refuge at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Parish in Juba, St Teresa Catholic Cathedral, Kator, Jebel area, Gudele and St Vincent Catholic Church Parish in Gumbo.

Peter said that the government of Jubek State is preparing to sensitize the community on the importance of peace and the commitment of the government in the peace implementation.

“The government is concerned of peace under the leadership of our President Salva Kiir, our governor is concerned at the same time including our committee are progressing very well. They will soon be going out to the field to sensitize our people on the situation that is going on.”

Phanuel said he thinks the situation will improve in order for displaced citizens to be able to go back to their respective areas.
