The minister of Information, Youth and Sports in Jubek State has demanded a review of the final design for Juba Football Stadium before reconstruction work commences.

The stadium, being renovated by GS Construction, is to be expanded in order to meet international standards.

Speaking to reporters in the state capital, Juba Friday last week, Minister Juma Stephen said the final design lacks tracks for athletics.

He pointed out that the state government has requested the company that was contracted and the general union to review the stadium’s design. “The ministry was not consulted in the final design of the stadium, so we ask for a review to include our demands,” Juma said.

Mekdim Rama, an engineer at the construction company, said despite delays in the stadium’s construction due review of its final design, the work is expected to be completed by the end of February or May 2020.

Built in 1962, Juba Football Stadium has been hosting state and local football matches before being demolished for reconstruction this year.
