Jubek governor demands probe into football financial scandal

The governor of Jubek State Augustino Jadalla Wani said his government wants to investigate how South Sudan’s Football Association received an amount of 400,000 US dollars from football’s world governing body FIFA without the knowledge of the National Ministry of Culture and Sports.

The governor of Jubek State Augustino Jadalla Wani said his government wants to investigate how South Sudan’s Football Association received an amount of 400,000 US dollars from football’s world governing body FIFA without the knowledge of the National Ministry of Culture and Sports.

The association’s board decided during an emergency extraordinary general meeting last week that its President Chabur Goc Alei should step aside because of alleged financial impropriety.

Speaking at a meeting organized by the general assembly of the Kator Football Club on Saturday, Governor Jadalla stressed that the government should have been informed about the money received by the association.

He noted that the government had no knowledge about Chabur’s suspension over misappropriation of funds, saying he also doesn’t know about what was going on in the association during previous years.

Chabur Alei came to office in 2012 and survived being ousted in July 2017 before FIFA intervened.
