Members of parliaments representing both upper and lower houses in South Sudan are lobbying members from countries in the region participating at the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region to accept their push seeking to designate a faction of armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition under the leadership of the former first vice president, Riek Machar, as a negative force.
A parliamentary delegation led by the speaker of the council of states, Joseph Bol Chan is in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum to participate in the international conference on the great lakes region.
Bol, according to the statement from his office, briefed the members of parliament from other countries in the region on Thursday, about efforts of the government to maximize peace and security in the country applauded and urged to do more.
The conference is expected deliberate on security matters and whether or not it should draw a list of negative forces in the region.
Juba called upon to provide more intelligence and security support to South Sudan and appreciated efforts by the Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan for isolating rebel leader and encouraged to isolate more elements still using their territories to disseminate activities aimed destabilizing security situation.
