The South Sudan police spokesperson said that at least two people were wounded in an exchange of fire between the police and an armed group of land grabbers on Sunday night in the Thongpiny suburb in the capital, Juba.
Major General Daniel Justin told Radio Tamazuj Monday that two of eleven people were shot in the legs during the exchange of fire between the police and an armed group that had forcefully taken possession of a house at night in Thongqiny.
"It seems that there is a dispute over a plot of land in Thongpiny near Rambo Square. At around 10 pm (Sunday), one of the parties to the conflict came with an armed force and expelled the other party from the house by force," Gen. Justin said.
He added, "The police received a report about the incident and when the police arrived at the scene, the door was closed and the group inside the house refused to open the door. The police opened the door by force but the group opened fire on the police and an exchange of fire took place between them."
Gen. Justin explained that during the exchange of fire, two people from the group were shot in the legs and injured.
"The police managed to arrest the group of 11 people and a case was opened against them. The wounded were taken for treatment on the same night. The police are investigating the group," he said.
Gen. Justin said calm returned to the neighbourhood, after the accident on the same night and that the police provided a guard for the house.
