South Sudan’s Interior Ministry intends to open a customs and migration office in the border state of Northern Bahr El Ghazal.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, Aweil East County Commissioner Awet Kiir said the Deputy Interior Minister and the Director of Customs Service recently visited the county in order to open the customs and migration office.

The commissioner said the delegation went up to the Majong border area where the proposed office will be established.

“The office will definitely boost the economy in the county and will benefit border communities as well as the business owners who are crossing to South Sudan,” he said.

He explained that the office will “simplify crossing procedures for the herders and will actually create employment opportunities for the locals.”

He noted the checkpoints with Sudan have not yet formally opened. He called on the two countries to speed up the process.
