The perpetrator of the deadly car accident, which killed at least seven people at Rock City in Juba on Saturday evening, has been identified as a South Sudanese businessman.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, multiple sources said Businessman Mr Kuol Dawud has been arrested in connection with the fatal road accident that killed seven people.
The tragic incident occurred when a Toyota V8 vehicle, registered as SSD 996L, rammed into a building after knocking three people dead at the Seventh Day Roundabout.
The police said the car driver, who was intoxicated, had been arrested and that investigations were ongoing to establish the reasons behind his actions.
Separately, Parliament on Monday morning vehemently denied some media reports that the man who caused the deadly accident is a Member of Parliament.
Speaking to journalists, John Agany Deng, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Information, said: “The person who committed that crime is not a member of parliament. The only issue was that the person was known to Hon. Lual Deng Kuel, who had given him his business card, and when the accident happened, the business card was in the car. The business card was reading the name of Hon. Lual Deng Kuel.”
“With that business card, one of the journalists by the name of Michael Christopher got that business card and immediately began to abuse the national legislative assembly,” he added.
The lawmaker sent his condolences to the families and friends of the seven people who died in the deadly car crash.
