Authorities in Mundri East have confirmed that the movement of vehicles and people between his county in Western Equatoria State and Central Equatoria State resumed last week after an attack along the road linking the two states.

Early this month, two people were killed and three others went missing when the vehicle they were traveling in was ambushed by unidentified gunmen.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the County Commissioner of Mundri East, Margaret Fozia Emmanuel said the situation has improved after they held talks with chiefs in the area.

She called on the citizens of Mundri East to be united and work for peace and development in the county.

“People are in peace those who are ambushing on the road let them go for peace talks because peace is what can bring development. Let people stop hatred if someone comes here in the county they should concentrate on development, not conflict, no one needs fighting now, my message is I need peace and free movement from my communities if someone wants to travel to Juba they can even go at night without fears on the road," Fozia said.

Meanwhile, the Payam administrator of Wito Serifino Kenyi said security had been restored and people have been moving through his payam daily.

Double Seven De Clement,  the police criminal investigations officer in greater Mundri confirmed that the road is accessible for the users since last week.

“Since the incident happened about 10 days back people have been fearing, but last week we started seeing people traveling one by one, and there is no problem on the road,” Clement assured.

He noted that the government has deployed security forces along the road to ensure the smooth movement of people and goods.
