Man accused of skimming 36k SSP from sorghum business

A 38 year old man faces charges of theft and corruption after police say he stole more than three bags of sorghum worth 36,000 SSP from a widow on Monday.

Judith Charles said that she knew Dominic Ayaffa as a family friend after her husband died last year. Ayaffa allegedly oversaw the transportation of sorghum to the local market for Charles, but skimmed profits from the transportation according to police.

“Dominic and his girlfriend used the money to go buy their own expenses” police said.

Ayaffa was previously being held at the police station on a failure to appear in court for a previous drunk driving charge.

Man accused of raping minor

A 31 year old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his neighbor’s child in the Serekat residential area, police said yesterday.

The victim was sleeping when the suspect broke into her home and raped her. An eyewitness, Dudu Saimia, told Radio Tamazuj that he heard little girl crying and found the man begging the girl not to report the rape to her aunt.

“I called on some nearby residents and the accused was arrested at the scene of crime,” Dudu said.

The child was taken to a local hospital. In June and July, 13 cases of rape were reported in the Serekat residential area.
