The Commissioner of Juba County in Central Equatoria State on Wednesday accused armed Mundari tribesmen rogue elements of the SSPDF of killing seven people in Kworjik in the Luri area North West of Juba City.

In a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj, Charles Commissioner Joseph Wani said the incident happened on Tuesday mourners were attacked at a funeral.

“We are saddened and deeply shocked by the brutal murder of innocent lives of unarmed civilians and injuring many others in Kworijik Luri on 9 May by heavily armed Mundari people in collaboration with some individual SSPDF with sophisticated weapons who happened to attack the government forces who are on an official mission in the Kworijik Luri area,” he wrote. “They (attackers) happen to resort to attacking the innocent civilians while at a funeral rite place killing 7 young men, injuring many others, and displacing hundreds of people from their residential.”

According to Wani, such horrific atrocities continue to happen in different parts of Juba County and Central Equatoria State in general.

He condemned the violence against civilians and called for an end to such attacks and urged the state government to intervene to restore peace and assist the affected people.

“Therefore, in solidarity with the affected community of Kwarjik Luri, I am kindly calling on the state government to intervene so that calm and peace are restored and delivery of essential items to women and children to alleviate the suffering of the people,” he said.

Efforts to reach the commissioner of Terekeka County were futile.
