South Sudan’s government army says it captured nine officers and non-commissioned officers (NCOs) belonging to the SPLA-In Opposition rebels during clashes in Northern Bahr al Ghazal State.
Military spokesperson Col Philip Aguer told Radio Tamazuj that elements of the rebels penetrated into Northern Bahr al Ghazal State and that the government forces pursued them for the last two days.
He said the prisoners of war were taken to the headquarters of Division 3 infantry in the State. Aguer noted the rebels have since crossed into Western Bahr al Ghazal state.
The spokesman claimed that the government forces are controlling the situation in the state.
Meanwhile, Raja County Commissioner said that there is military intelligence coordination between Raja and Aweil West Counties to spot movements of the rebels in the area.
He told Radio Tamazuj that they didn’t observe any movement of the SPLA-IO rebels on the northeast border of Raja County.
However, he said the rebels might have entered areas where there is no monitoring. The commissioner confirmed their readiness to repulse any attack by the rebels in the area.
