Juba chooses diplomacy in border row

The Undersecretary in the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ministry John Samuel Bwogo has said South Sudan was engaging its neighbors to resolve the encroachment into the country diplomatically.

There have been reports of encroachment by the residents of Magwi County in the areas of Pogee Boma where the Ugandan armed forces were reported to be harassing civilians inside South Sudan.

Similar reports have also come from parts of Kajo-keji County, but the Foreign Ministry and the top leadership of the country have been silent.

Bwogo told journalists in Juba on Tuesday that South Sudan had opted for a diplomatic solution.

“We are investigating the matter and were already having a standing committee with regards to the borders with Uganda, Kenya and Sudan,” Bwogo said

“There is the international law, of course, and you cannot just encroach into somebody`s territory. We have our ambassadors in Kampala, in Kenya and in all the neighboring countries. At the moment, I will not tell you exactly what we are doing, but we are doing something along that line,” he added.
