Juba-Bor road reopens, but tensions remain

The road between Juba and Bor was re-opened on Wednesday night.After clashes between the Mundari and Bari tribes, the road between the two cities closed on May 7th.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, David Ahoou, chairman of the traders’ union said the authorities of Bor County were asked to allow commercial vehicles to Juba. An armed escort will be established between the route from Bor to Kormakuach, and Juba to Bor, the chairman said. 

“The road of Juba will be opened today, there are vehicles here that will be going and they will with the escort of police, the police will go until Kormakuach and they will get another cars coming to Bor and they will come with them,” said Ahoou.

Ahoou also said that transportation on the Nile river is still closed because of tribal fighting. 

Chairman of the drivers’ union Deng Abel told Radio Tamazuj that the County Commissioner with his counterparts in the two rival new states of Terekeka and Jubek are cooperating in order to settle the problem.

“Yesterday the chairman of the traders’ union came to me and said they have gone to the high authorities and this morning the road will be opened, so I thank them for they are committed, they told us to stop and they have told us to resume, it is good,” Abel said.
