At least three people were injured in two separate attacks on vehicles along the Juba-Bor road in Jonglei State on Saturday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, John Thon, the head of the drivers’ union in Jonglei, said the incident occurred at the Panmodi area along the Juba-Bor road when two private cars were attacked by gunmen while on their way to Bor Saturday morning, injuring three people.
“One private car with three people was on its way from Juba to Bor when it was ambushed by assailants at the Panmodi between Gemeza and Bor town on Saturday,11 am. Two people sustained gunshot wounds on the buttocks and the head respectively," Thon said. "The second incident occurred at the same area at the same time when an Ethiopian national driving a road construction company was shot on his stomach."
The head of the driver's body in the state, however, pointed out that transports along the Juba-Bor road remain undisrupted despite the incidents.
John Mawut Ngang, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incidents and said life returned to normalcy immediately after.
“Life is now normal. The Ethiopian national is receiving treatment at a hospital in Juba while the rest are nursing wounds at the Bor hospital,” he said.
The police officer said an investigation is ongoing into the incident but that the culprits remain at large.
The Juba-Bor road has been a scene of recurring attacks carried out by armed bandits for years.
