Police in Jonglei state said unknown gunmen attacked a commercial vehicle along the Juba-Bor road on Tuesday leaving one dead.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Jonglei Police Commissioner Joseph Mayen Akoon said the incident occurred near Magalla town.

“The incident occurred at Khor-Makuach when an armed group opened fire on a commercial vehicle, injuring one person who later died at a hospital in Juba. The victim was identified as Gai Mathiang Deng,” Mayen said.

No arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident, he added.

The senior police officer says they will start providing security escorts in a bid to control the recurring attacks on passenger vehicles between Juba and Bor.
