Journalists are reportedly in dialogue with the security services in order to secure the release of a number of journalists currently under detention.

The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) head Alfred Taban told Radio Tamazuj that security agents are not supposed to arrest journalists after the media bills were signed into law.

He said what is being done by the security service is not new. Taban revealed the security service informed them that they will not arrest any reporter if he or she follows the government’s policy.

When asked about the issue of the UN radio journalist George Livio Bahara who is still in detention, Taban said the security service told them that Bahara’s issue is with the SPLA army.

The senior journalist announced that the association and the journalist’s union intend to train security personnel on how to cooperate with the journalists.

UN radio journalist George Livio Bahara has been held without charge in the capital Juba after being transferred from Wau town for nearly a year.
