A local official in Boma state has accused local youth from neighboring Jonglei state of causing a big destruction of properties during their recent attack on Kotchar and Manyibol areas.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the spokesman for Boma state’s crisis management committee, Moses Tomburum, said more than 1,500 houses including government buildings were raised to ashes in Kotchar and Manyibol areas of Boma State.

He further said the attackers were still in control of Kotchar and Manyibol.

“They burned nearly 1,500 houses in Kotchar and Manyibol after they controlled the area. They also burned the police station and health facility and many civilians have fled to the bush, we could not get any figure of the casualties among them,” said Tomburum.

The local official called on the peace commission and the national government to quickly intervene to resolve the conflict.

Jonglei Information Minister, Akech Dengdit, told Radio Tamazuj earlier that he was aware of any attack by youth from Jonglei.
