The Secretary General of the Government of Jonglei, Gatwech Koak Nyuon, officially resigned his position effective Friday 3 January 2025.
His resignation letter addressed to Governor Mahjoub Biel Turuk, Nyuon stated that he was stepping down for personal reasons after serving for four years. He confirmed the return of the state government vehicle assigned to him during his tenure.
“Due to personal reasons, I am happy to inform you that I officially resigned from the position of Secretary General of Jonglei State with effect from today (Friday),” the letter reads in part.
Nyuon, who was appointed by former Governor Denay Jock Chagor has been an influential figure in the state’s administration, overseeing various government functions. The resignation has raised questions about its potential impact on the state’s ongoing development efforts. Governor Turuk has yet to make a public statement regarding the resignation.
