South Sudan’s Jonglei State governor says the security situation is relatively calm despite reports of fear and panic in parts of the state after citizens observed the movement of opposition troops in recent weeks.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Philip Aguer, said people should go on with their daily lives as the state government monitors the situation.
“In Jonglei, we are stable. There is no insecurity. There is information about General Gatwech Duol who is in the areas of Makuk. We are aware of his mobilization. We are also aware of Duop Lam. Those are IO generals. Whether they will violate or stick to the ceasefire we are yet to know," he said.
Aguer said he will tour Jonglei border areas this week to assure residents of their safety and encourage them to cultivate while reiterating their commitment to implementing the peace deal.
SPLM-IO’s deputy military spokesperson, Lam Paul Gabriel could not immediately be reached for comment.
