Jonglei State: Murder suspects arrested after fishing rights clashes

The police in Bor town in Jonglei State have arrested five murder suspects for allegedly killing a man during clashes over fishing rights in the outskirts of the town.

The police in Bor town in Jonglei State last Thursday arrested five murder suspects for allegedly killing a man during clashes over fishing rights in the outskirts of the town.

Joseph Mayen Akoon, the state police commissioner, said the murder suspects are being investigated and will be arraigned in court.

“The disagreement started at 12 am between two communities in Baidit Payam leading to the death of one person,” Mayen said. “I immediately dispersed the police and two suspects were handed over to us by the chiefs and yesterday (Thursday) morning, we arrested 3 more suspects.”

The police commissioner said calm had been restored after the incident and that investigation into the matter is ongoing.

For his part, Bor County commissioner Yuot Alier condemned the incident and called on the aggrieved family to remain calm as the law takes its course.
