Police in Bor town of Jonglei State have released a secondary education director it arrested for firing a weapon into the air during a teacher’s protest in mid-September.
The state police spokesperson, Major Majak Daniel Tuor, told Radio Tamazuj that Francis Mayen Deng was released on bail last Friday awaiting court proceedings.
“Yes, he has been released on bail awaiting a hearing at the high court. He will appear before a court before 15 of October,” he said.
The police officer pointed out that the senior education official is charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
The protest erupted in Bor town in mid-September as over 200 secondary school teachers demanded 9million SSP in incentives from July 2019 to March this year. The accused is alleged to have opened fire into the air when the protests became intense, prompting his arrest.
