An investigation has been launched into an incident in which 2 people were killed and scores injured in Bor County of Jonglei State, the police said.

On Friday, two people were killed and four others injured in clashes involving two rival communities at a fishing site in Bor County’s Baidit area. No arrests have been made.

The Jonglei State police commissioner, Maj. Gen. Elia Costa Faustino, told Radio Tamazuj Sunday that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“After we received the news about the incident, we dispatched our officers but all those involved in clashes ran away on seeing the police boat,” Gen. Costa said. “So, we retrieved the dead bodies and took the injured from both sides to Bor State Hospital for treatment.”

“The cause of the incident is not clear but some sources linked it to revenge killings while others say it is a dispute over the fishing site,” he added.

Gen. Costa said the police are investigating the incident and called for calm.
