Jonglei state lawmakers on Tuesday unanimously passed a motion to divide the state into two separate states.

The motion brought before the house by MP Thon Nyok called for the division of Jonglei state into Jonglei and Bor states with headquarters in Panyagor and Bor respectively.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, chairperson of the parliamentary committee for information in Jonglei State Kuol Bol Ayom said the vote was unanimous as the parliamentarians believe Jonglei is vast and has a huge population making service delivery difficult.

According to Bol, 22 members of parliament participated in the deliberations in which 19 supported the motion while 3 abstained from the vote.
