An advisor to the governor of Jonglei State said yesterday that President Salva Kiir’s decision to change the number of states in South Sudan from 10 to 28 will remain for now, but said there was a possibility the number of states could change in the future.

“28 states are to remain, no additional and no reduction as said by the president, as you might have heard these days that there are people who say the 28 states will be reduced or will be increased, those people in your name and our name as people of greater Bor, we tell them that you are liars” said Agot Alier, an advisor to the governor on parliamentary affairs and former comissioner of Bor county. “28 homes that the president has brought are good like that, if they will be reduced, they will be reduced in future but not now”

Speaking at the 33rd anniversary of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) day of rebellion, Alier cautioned the Jonglei citizens to take the day as an important event for them.

Bor is the foundation of the young Nation’s army SPLA which was founded in 1983 by the former late rebel leader, turned hero, Dr. John Garang De Mabior.
