The Health Minister of Jonglei State, Chuol Dhieu Teny, has expressed deep concern about the critical health situation in Pigi County, where residents and returnees are struggling with basic necessities.
Minister Teny conveyed his shock during a recent inspection of the county, revealing a severe lack of health services.
“I visited six payams, including Khrfulus and Mereng near Sobat River, where health facilities presented numerous challenges. It was alarming to discover that essential health services were not being provided in these areas. My inspections at Canal, Mat PHCC, Khorfulu, Diel, and Khorwai PHCCs revealed a lack of drugs, and the staff running the facilities were found to be unqualified,” stated Health MChuol.
He added, “The situation in Pigi County appears dire, with the community urgently in need of essential services.”
The health minister has called on health agencies operating in the country to step in and support by providing essential equipment for facilities and conducting training for health workers. He emphasized that government resources are currently overstretched.
Meanwhile, James Biliu Kur, the acting Pigi County commissioner, highlighted that the health situation in the county is worsening due to floods and an influx of returnees.
He expressed relief at the one-week state health ministry inspection mission, which began on November 17, and has now appealed for further intervention.
