The governor of South Sudan’s Jonglei State has sacked the state labor minister who is a member of the defunct SPLM-IO under Taban Deng.
Philip Aguer, in a decree that went public on Monday evening, fired Thon Simon from his position after suspension for four months without investigation. Aguer did not give any reason for the decision.
Simon’s woes started in April this year when he suspended salaries for 42 'ghost' civil servants in the parliament.
In May, Jonglei state parliamentarians voted to impeach Thon Simon over alleged incompetence.
However, in a letter dated October 10 which was seen by Radio Tamazuj the national Justice Minister Paulino Wanawila urged Jonglei state governor to reinstate Thon Simon, saying the impeachment process was not procedural.
Thon Simon was appointed as state labor minister in September 2017.
