The governor of Jonglei State, Maker Thiong  Maal has sacked his youth affairs advisor, Jacob Akec Dengdit and the Twic North County commissioner, Ayiik Deng Goc from their positions and appointed their successors.

The new changes were announced in a gubernatorial decree issued in Bor town on Tuesday.

The governor, in another gubernatorial decree, named Aluong Machuor Kulang as his new advisor on youth affairs, while Atem Duot Atem was appointed the new commissioner for Twic North County.

Maker, in the decree, did not give reasons why he sacked the two officials.

Several people Radio Tamazuj interviewed claimed Ayiik’s sacking could be linked to recent inter-communal clashes over Chuet-Akwet, a disputed island between Jonglei and Eastern Lakes states.

Ayiik, however, said on Wednesday that he helped ease tensions among the rival groups over the disputed island.
