The caretaker governor of South Sudan’s Jonglei State John Kong Nyuon on Thursday fired the mayor of Bor town Nhial Majak Nhial.
Majak is accused of grabbing land belonging to the local government and law enforcement ministry in Bor town.
In the last two months, Majak was reportedly suspended from his position by the governor over the land dispute.
Majak has previously denied allegations that he stole the land, which was the site of Bor’s old main market before being handed over to local government.
The former mayor said he has proper documents to prove he is the owner of the land, though others have disputed the veracity of those documents.
Majak served as Bor mayor for three years.
