Jonglei: Bor town council orders weekly general cleanings

Bor Town Council under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Deng Akuei Kur has issued an order on Tuesday for the general public to carry out mass cleaning every Saturday.

The order seen by Radio Tamazuj was cited as “Provisional Order Number 02/2016 of the new Jonglei State Government,” written by Deng Akuei.

It gives the entire public one and half hours to complete cleaning from 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

“With powers vested upon me under Section 40, read together with Section 63, of the Local Government Act 2009, I, Deng Akuei Kur, Chief Executive Officer of Bor Municipal Council do hereby issue this order for the Weekly General Cleaning in Bor town and shall come into force on the date of its signature,” the order reads.

According to the provisional order, NGO compounds, shops, hotels, residential estates, shall be responsible for their wastes collection and the garbage there shall be put in one place.
For any individuals who will violate the order, they shall face a fine of 50 SSP to 100 SSP, depending on the severity of the violation.

“Companies or hotel owners or NGOs violating the order for the first time shall receive a fine of 300 SSP and a fine between 500 SSP to 1,000 SSP for the second time or imprisonment for a term not less than thirty [30] days or both,” the document added.

The order also indicated that it is not advisable to burn any garbage as it will pollute the atmosphere.
